– 19 years in plastic surgery is quite a journey. How did it all start, and how did you come to own your own clinic, DeaMed, today?

I made the decision to work in plastic surgery back in 2002. My goal was to specialize in hair transplantation. At that time, the field was not yet developed or popular. Around me, many men were struggling with baldness, and it seemed like a fascinating challenge. I love engaging with new things. Afterward, I spent eight years in research, defending my dissertation on hair transplantation into scars. This was a novelty in the field, and we succeeded in setting a new standard. I have witnessed many remarkable cases that significantly improved the quality of life for my patients.

Today, hair transplantation has advanced considerably, meeting patients’ main demand: that transplanted hair looks natural, leaving no scars in the donor area, which was an issue with older methods and technologies. This is why many patients previously avoided the procedure. Eventually, I founded DeaMed Clinic, which has been successful from day one and soon became a leader not only in Georgia but also worldwide. DeaMed offers patients the most effective and safe technologies in a comfortable environment, guaranteeing the best results. DeaMed is a part of my life, my second family, and I am confident that its traditions and progress will be continued by my successors.

– Hair transplantation is your passion. How challenging is this work, and what makes it unique?

Hair transplantation is something I deeply love. It gives me so much joy that I don’t even consider it “difficult.” Every case is unique and requires an individual approach. The procedure is extremely meticulous: the surgeon works for hours under magnification, like a jeweler. It requires ultramodern technology and mastery of surgical instruments. To achieve the best results, a plastic surgeon must have not only technical skills but also an artistic vision and precision.

– What ensures the surgeon’s success and popularity?

Success comes with years of experience and relentless dedication. A surgeon must constantly evolve — past knowledge alone is never enough. Beyond education, scientific thinking and critical analysis are essential. Active involvement in research and sharing knowledge with peers are key. A plastic surgeon must master the most progressive technologies available. I must also emphasize: my success would be impossible without my team. These are dedicated professionals who create the quality of DeaMed with me.

– What is the “DeaMed Standard” in hair transplantation?

The “DeaMed Standard” is a set of algorithms I developed based on evidence-based medicine and years of practice. It serves as a guide in hair transplantation. Since DeaMed is also a university training center, surgeons from around the world come to us for specialization in hair transplantation. Their training is based on mastering the principles of the DeaMed Standard. For patients, this means guaranteed, natural-looking results.

– What are patients’ expectations when they come to you?

Patients planning plastic surgery have high expectations. It is vital that the surgeon properly evaluates their condition and provides realistic information about outcomes. Factors such as genetics, age, donor resources, hair structure, and baldness degree all matter. In advanced cases (grade 7 baldness), donor resources may be insufficient, limiting even the most advanced surgeon’s ability to deliver results. In such cases, honesty is essential — explaining why surgery cannot achieve the desired effect. Patients appreciate this honesty, as it saves them from disappointment later.

– What distinguishes you in this field?

The most important thing is patient satisfaction. To achieve that, the surgeon must realistically assess, plan, and communicate with honesty. Alongside experience and knowledge, the surgeon must master modern technologies. Medicine constantly evolves, and surgeons must adapt. Every year, we attend the International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery (ISHRS) meetings in the US, sharing experiences with top global experts. We then bring these innovations back to DeaMed.

– Has hair transplantation among men destroyed the myth that men don’t care about appearance?

Absolutely. The myth that baldness is “natural” and unavoidable has been debunked. In fact, androgenic alopecia is recognized as a chronic disease with its own ICD code (L64), requiring treatment. Men have embraced hair transplantation, realizing its effectiveness. Years ago, people rarely discussed it, as it was considered a cosmetic luxury. Today, men proudly say they’ve had a hair transplant. It is seen as prestigious self-care.

Hair transplantation often transforms patients’ lives. It boosts confidence, encourages healthy living, exercise, and self-care. A renewed image provides new motivation and energy, making people more productive in both personal and professional life.

– What does international recognition as a hair transplant expert mean to you?

It is both a great honor and a responsibility. Recognition by foreign colleagues motivates me to work harder, seek innovation, and continue advancing the field.
